The new brigade

Praful Patel retains civil aviation portfolio

The much awaited announcement post-2009 general elections about who would preside over the tourism ministry and those ministries directly linked to the travel industry with regard to infrastructure was finally answered when the re-elected Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh announced the portfolios of his Union Council of Ministers recently.

Kumari Selja takes charge from Ambika Soni as the new Minister of Tourism, in addition to continuing with her earlier portfolio of being the Minister of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation. Mamata Banerjee takes over from Lalu Prasad Yadav and is in charge of the Ministry of Railways while Praful Patel will continue to serve as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Ministry of Civil Aviation and Kamal Nath is appointed as the Minister of Road Transport and Highways. E Ahamed and K H Muniyappa have been appointed as Ministers of State in the Ministry of Railways, Sultan Ahmed as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism and R P N Singh as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
