Kamat Hotels (India) set to expand its 'Orchid' brand of hotels

Dinkar Farwaha - New Delhi

Kamat Hotels (India) has announced its plan to open eight new hotels under its premium brand 'Orchid'. Accordingly, the first property on the radar is Balewadi in Pune, which the company plans to open in October this year (2008). "The 200-room hotel is a joint venture between Kamat Hotels, India, Unity Infraprojects and BSEL Infrastructure. We have a 17.5 per cent stake in the hotel, and plan to operate and manage it by ourselves," informed Vishal Kamat, director, Kamat Hotels (India). The group plans to launch its 'Orchid' brand in three other cities (besides Pune) within this current financial year as well. "These hotels will be located in Phagwara (Punjab), Jaipur (Rajasthan) and Kollam (Kerala)," mentioned Kamat, adding, "We will be managing these three properties for our partners. These hotels are under various stages of development and we are confident of opening them by the end of this financial year." In the next financial year, Kamat Hotels (India) is looking at opening its premium brand of hotels in Nagpur (Maharashtra), Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Ahmedabad (Gujarat) and Coimbatore (Tamilnadu). While the upcoming hotels in Nagpur and Coimbatore will follow the ownership model, the ones in Hyderabad and Ahmedabad will only be managed by the group. The group, within the next financial year, will also add 100 rooms to its flagship property in Mumbai, The Orchid.

Kamat Hotels (India) to open Asia's fastest made hotels in September
Kamat Hotels (India) is all set to open a premium property (Orchid) and a four-star property (VITS) in Pune (Balewadi) by October this year. "The properties will have 200 rooms each. Though the properties will be close to each other, they will be developed on a single plot of land," informed Vishal Kamat, director, Kamat Hotels (India). The group, who are the official hosts for Commonwealth Youth Games this year which are to be held in Pune from October 12-18, will be opening these properties for the athletes and officials in October. The properties will be open to public from November 1. According to Kamat, these properties, which are to be constructed and developed in the span of thirteen months, will be ‘the fastest made hotels in Asia’. The hotels will be joint ventures between Kamat Hotels (India), Unity Infraprojects and BSEL Infrastructure. Kamat Hotels (India) has a 17.5 per cent stake in the hotels. The properties will be operated and managed by Kamat Hotels (India) itself. The group will target the emerging MICE market in the region. "We have 4000 square feet of banqueting space in Orchid itself," concluded Kamat.
