Food Craft Institute to be set up in Halebid in Karnataka
Gayatri Vijaykumar - Bangalore
The Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka has announced
plans of setting up a Food Craft Institute in Halebid located in the Hassan
district of Karnataka. According to IM Vittalamurthy, secretary to Government
Kannada and Culture, Information & Tourism, Government of Karnataka, five
acres of land in Halebid belonging to the government will be utilised for the
institute.
"The institute will provide opportunities for people living in Hassan and
nearby districts and they will not have to travel to Bangalore to pursue their
education. There is a huge requirement for trained manpower particularly in
view of the large number of hotels being set up in the state," said Vittalamurthy.
The government of India has sanctioned Rs four crore for setting up the institute
in Halebid. The six-month course will offer students diploma in F&B, front
office and housekeeping. According to Vittalamurthy, once the basic infrastructure
has been put up, the department might consider increasing the course duration.
"We have already received a grant to set up the institute and it will be
functional from the next academic year," he added. Plans are also on to
set up another Food Craft Institute in the Dharwad district of North Karnataka.
