Phoenix Group forays into business hotels

The Phoenix Group has announced plans of setting up a five-star deluxe property
in Bangalore. Scheduled to open in December 2008, this would be the group's
first venture into the business hotel category. The 160-room property will also
offer conference facilities, four F&B outlets, a bar and a signature spa.
According to Priti Chand, director (PR & communication), Phoenix Group Global,
the property is slated to be completed at an investment of approximately Rs
300 crore. "We may tie up with Radisson or choose another brand,"
Chand added. The group has also procured around five and a half acres of land
near the new Bangalore International Airport, Devanahalli. "We might look
at mixed use wherein we would set up a property on two acres of land and develop
the rest," Chand revealed.
The Phoenix Group is also actively looking at entering the tier II and tier
III cities. Phase II of its plans will look at setting up properties in Kochi,
Ahmedabad and Jaipur. The group is also currently in the final stages of discussions
for procuring sites to set up business hotels in Chennai and Hyderabad. Headquartered
in Bangalore, the Phoenix Group has interests in floriculture, hospitality and
real estate. The Radisson White Sands Resort, Goa is the group's flagship property
in India. Its three properties - Radisson White Sands Resort, Goa, Country Inns
& Suites by Carlson, Goa and Radisson Plaza Resort & Spa, Kumarakom
are under franchise agreement with Carlson Hospitality.
