What's happening in Mumbai’s hotels? A peek into the party circuit and events in the city...

Smooth sailing

Mahima Choudhary, Geeta Basra and Archana Kochhar at the Samira Mumbai International Boat Show

Cruise control was on at the Samira Mumbai International Boat Show at Bandra Kurla Complex. Vice Admiral J S Bedi inaugurated the event and the show organisers, Sujay Chohan and Dr Malav Shroff, were there along with well-known faces like Ness Wadia, Anil Deshmukh, Gautam Singhania, Adi Godrej, Poonam Dhillon, Arvind Dubash, Neysa Godrej and Pherza Godrej. Guests rambled across the exhibition venue and admired the boats, yachts, kayaks and jet-skis. They also had a glimpse of the fashion show by Archana Kochhar in association with Gitanjali, with two Bollywood showstoppers, Mahima Choudhury and Geeta Basra. And in tandem with the boat show there were a couple of parties aboard the Princess Yacht moored near the Gateway of India with celebrated couturier Rohit Bal showcasing his fashion week collection.

Beer and beauties

Tapur and Tupur Chatterji at the Ice Model Management launch at Olive

The refreshing Peroni beer presented a fashionable brunch at Olive to celebrate the launch of Ice Model Management, a Mumbai-based modelling agency which exclusively represents some of the most recognisable names and faces to have graced the Indian fashion industry. Actor and model Upen Patel along with Nupur Sagar, head of operations, were the hosts for the breezy brunch at the Mediterranean-styled eatery and bar. The merry mix of guests included fashion designers Manish Malhotra, Narendra Kumar, Vikram Phadnis, Pria Kataria Puri, Rocky S and Arjun Khanna, Kimaya owner Pradeep Hirani, models Tapur and Tupur Chatterji, Nina Manuel, Gauhar Khan, Sanea Sheikh, Candice Pinto, Viveka Babajee, Kavita Kharayat, Alicia Raut, Mridula Chandrashekhar and Megha Kawale who doubled up as the DJ photographers, Subi Samuel, Avinash Govariker, Vikram Bawa, Dabbo Ratnani, film personalities Dharmesh and Suneel Darshan, Abbas Mustan, Vinta Nanda, Kumar Mangat and Vikram Chatwal.

Sunny shades

Nitin Kalwani and models at the OPI show at Aurus

The open-air section of Aurus was the breezy venue for a showcase of the India Collection of nail colours from the famed OPI of the US. Complementing the sunny spring-summer colours were the colourful creations by Nandita Mahtani. Host Nitin Kalwani of Headrush Marketing (Dubai) and wife Gia were there amidst the décor of marigold, jasmine and diyas as they welcomed guests Karan Johar, Maheep and Sanjay Kapoor, Surily Goel, Renu Chainani, Neelam Kothari, Sonali Bendre, Mayuri Garware, Kelly Dorji, Rocky S, Anil Chopra, Narendra Kumar, Mukul Deora, Farah Khan, Aqeel Ali and Dimple Inamdar. Rosy pink, magenta, turquoise, yellow, tangerine and geranium red nails were seen on the many models on the move. You were told that lighter shades for nails are so right with the season's alluring, feminine fabrics, and that pale opal nails go well with delicate dresses of flowing chiffon, organza, tulle and liquid jersey. Get Me to the Taj on Time, ElePhantastic Pink and Moon over Mumbai were the names of some of the nail shades.

Walk of life

A hundred models at the relaunch of Skyzone and Mogra

It was perhaps the longest fashion walk within a retail space, covering half-a-km, with as many as a hundred models at the re-launch of the premium mall Skyzone and the high-fashion Mogra store at High Street Phoenix. Hosted by Atul and Gayatri Ruia, presented by Chhaya Momaya and choreographed by Marc Robinson, it was styled on an international format with only single front row seating to maximise each viewer's experience. The models emerged from the escalator and walked into Skyzone and then into Mogra, leading into a large terrace and stairwell where a fitting finale was presented with the hosts taking centre stage. A jazz performance, cocktails and exotic vegetarian fare from Taj Lands End added to the action. Elina and Bijal Meswani, Shruti Vora, Mamta Kilachand, Punam and Sonakshi Sinha, Anu Mallik, Farida and Pankaj Udhas, Deepika Gehani, Roopa Fabiani, Vanita Bhandari, Shahnaz and Sailesh Mahimtura, Lata Patel, Namrata Barua and Vikram Shroff, Bikram and Schauna Saluja, Gayatri and Vicky Oberoi, Kiran More, Lubna Allana, Debbie Hitkari, Meena and Durga Raheja were among the distinguished guests enjoying the experience.
