Tunga group to launch 4-star boutique hotel in Mumbai

Eyes Pune, Bangalore next

Rajesh Rodrigues - Mumbai

After launching Hotel Tunga Regency in Navi Mumbai, Tunga Group plans another four-star boutique property - Hotel Tunga Regale - in Andheri's MIDC area, Mumbai by October 2007. The 55-room property will be its first boutique hotel with fresh investment of Rs 40 crore. This would be the group's third property in the same vicinity, the others being Tunga International and Tunga Paradise.

According to Rohan Hegde, the group's director, "There has been constant demand for rooms around the MIDC area due to Software Technological Park at SEEPZ. We are therefore building a property which will provide them with all five-star needs close to their workplace. It will include a health club, poolside restaurant and multi-cuisine restaurants."

Claiming to be the first amongst the 'Bunts' community to make a foray into the luxury segment of the hospitality industry, Hegde says, "Traditionally the Bunts are into restaurants and small hotels. This is evident by the hotels that the Tunga group owned till recently. Our hotels earned more revenue through food than rooms. But with Tunga Regency and the upcoming Tunga Regale the dynamics of our business has changed. We are keen to expand and are looking at other cities too. At the moment Pune and Bangalore look like promising locations."
