Sahara enters into hospitality sector with Sahara Star

EH Staff - Mumbai

The Sahara group has launched a five-star property in Mumbai named Sahara Star, which marks the group's foray into the hospitality sector. The property located near the domestic airport, previously called Airport Centaur hotel. It was bought by the Sahara Group from Batra Hospitality for Rs 115 crore in 2002 and has been revamped into a 223-room five-star hotel.

While the interiors have been completely renovated, the exteriors have been left untouched. The group plans to expand the rooms and foray into service apartments in the next phase of developing this property. Prakash H Shah, its VP (Projects), said, "After the completion of our next phase, we will have 412 rooms, which will include 19 suites and 48 fully serviced apartments." The number of restaurants in the hotel will also increase from nine to 13 in the next phase, said Shah. Meanwhile, the group is exploring an expansion programme across the country and looking to build or acquire as many hotels as possible.
