Munnar Catering College: Ideal residential institution

Munnar Catering College is established and managed by Thachankary Foundation
and promoted by Royal Group of companies, a multifaceted company engaged in
aviation, education, shipping, advertising, plantation, communication, hotel,
resorts, travel and tourism industries. It is a co-educational institution and
its international residential campus is located at 6,500 ft. above sea level
in Thachankary Hills, Suryanelli, Munnar, Kerala.
It was after realising the immense scope for employment from own experience
in hospitality, aviation and shipping industries, the promoters initiated the
establishment of Munnar Catering College. The hill station luxury hotel - Fort
Munnar - functioning under the same management of the college offers practical
training for the students in all departments under the guidance of experienced
professionals. The rich blend of international curriculum and exciting extra-curricular
activities at the college make it an ideal residential educational institution.
It is provided with an exact replica of five-star hotel rooms.
There is ample area for outdoor games and the indoor stadium with an area of
10,000 sq.ft. offers excellent facility for basket ball, volley ball, shuttle
cock, etc. The high-tech gymnasium, jumbo size sauna and steam bath, swimming
pool with jacuzzi and amphi-theatre include the facilities provided in the residential
campus.
The curriculum at Munnar Catering College is designed to give the students a
chance to express themselves and help them understand social and moral values
by promoting co-education and by learning even outside the campus through picnics
and entertainments. Students are offered on the job training in all the departments
of own hotels under guidance and supervision of experienced and talented professionals
exclusively appointed for the purpose. In addition to this, to get a better
understanding and first hand information of what is happening around in the
industry the students are also sent for practical training during their course
of study to other reputed hotels too, as part of their curriculum.
Each academic year of the three-year diploma in Hotel Management & Catering
Technology (DHMCT) shall be divided into two semesters. The sixth semester shall
consist of training in any of the hotel classified under three-star or above
category for a period of 22 weeks at the end of which they will submit a training/project
report.
