Venky's Rock to target women wine consumers

Venky's Rock, the wine division of Bala Entertainment, a standalone company
of the Venkateshwara Hatcheries (VH) group, wants to become a niche player in
the Indian wine market. The company plans to launch four brands of wine targeted
at women consumers.
A herbal blend of wine with anti-oxidant properties and considered a healthier
option, would be launched soon. O P Singh, CEO of Venky's Rock, said the company
would initially sell two lakh bottles of herbal wine. "There has been a
12 per cent rise in the number of women drinking wine in the last couple of
years and the number of visits to restaurants and pubs is on the rise. Since
wine is considered more socially acceptable, women are shifting from alcohol-based
drinks to wine as a healthier option," Singh adds.
