Orchid wins Responsible Tourism Awards 2006 at WTM

The Orchid Hotel, Mumbai, that has been doing it's bit for the planet and its
people, has won the First Choice Responsible Tourism Awards 2006 in the Best
Large Hotel category at the World Travel Mart held from November 6 to 9, 2006
in London.
The group received the award for it's environmental initiatives such as innovative
energy-efficient schemes, reusing of all discharged and waste water, adoption
of zero-garbage policy and using aerators and flow restrictors in all taps,
whereby the hotel saves and continues to save water by over 50 per cent.
The Orchid Hotel, Mumbai also won the British Travel Awards 2006 - environmentally
responsible tourism individual hotel. This award was scrutnised by an international
panel of judges who said that The Orchid had achieved an ISO 14001 certification,
which helped demonstrate a transparent approach towards measuring and monitoring
environmental performance. The Orchid has been clearly active in identifying
and addressing environmental impacts and a responsible approach was clearly
evident in all its activities. This brings Orchid's award collection to 50.
