FHRAI to form '5 Star' committee to counter HAI
Sanjeev Bhar - Chandigarh
The Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) has
planned to set up a 'Five Star' committee to address issues related to five-star
hotels. Revealing this piece of information is secretary general of the federation,
Kamal Sharma who says, "FHRAI has decided to formulate a committee which
will comprise one member from each zone, preferably of the designation of chief
executive officer or above of a five-star hotel property, to exclusively look
after and thereby address the complications and issues related to five-star
properties." The decision was taken during the association's recent annual
general meeting held at its 42nd convention in Chandigarh.
A key hotel industry professional and a member of FHRAI, wishing anonymity,
remarked that this category has been outlined to counter Hotel Association of
India (HAI), which also has a fair share of participation from the industry.
"Many five-star hotel groups were not happy with FHRAI considering it to
be a mouthpiece of budget hotels. But a committee exclusively for five-star
hotels would be good news for them," he said.
