Jaypee Group to foray into budget segment

Sanjeev Bhar - New Delhi

Jaypee Group is all set to diversify its brand by offering hotels in the mid-market segment. Speaking to Express Hospitality, Manju Sharma, director - operations and finance - Jaypee Group informed that it will be rolling out a few hotels by the time the Commonwealth Games begun in the capital in 2010. "The budget hotels will be positioned in the three-star category but will offer all the five-star comfort and will be launched only in Northern India. We haven't finalised the brand name yet," she said.

However, Sharma refused to divulge further any investment details or the accrual source.

Mukesh Singhal, VP operations, Jaypee Vasant Continental informed, "Jaypee Group is also constructing a 350-room hotel at its 450 acre land in Greater Noida, which comes under our mixed-use plan project - the Jaypee Green." The project consists of 25 cottages, a 197 acres 18-hole golf course, residences, a resort, integrated sports complex, lakes, landscaped parks and a spa. "The construction will begin in the next two months and initially we will open only 150 rooms, and later on the capacity will be increased to 350 rooms. The property will be operational before the 2010 Commonwealth Games," Singhal added.

The Jaypee Group is also eyeing a property at Jaipur as the next five-star destination to complete its presence in the third-leg of the golden triangle circuit. The group has also undertaken extensive renovation plans for its Agra, Mussoorie and Delhi properties.
