Titarrelli Wines make India debut

EH Staff - Mumbai

Titarrelli Wines made its debut in India recently with Goa-based Best Foods & Wine Impex importing them for retail and institutional distribution.

Titarrelli wines are cultivated only in Mendoza from the special Malbec variety of grapes. Jagdeep Chowgule, Best Foods & Wine Impex, said, "Argentina is renowned worldwide for its great wine varietals. Thanks to its vast, unique lands and exceptional weather, the production of wines has always been one of the most active sectors of its economy."

According to Cameron McPhee, a sommelier, "There is no place in the world that can make a Malbec like Mendoza with its immense fruits of cherry and its tannic value that can withstand and go well with any Indian dish. With the European influence on the wine growing and the 40-plus years of wine age, Mendoza is producing world class wines at affordable prices."

The Mendoza wine region, which is mostly desert and located at the foot of the Andes Mountains, reaches 1,500 hectares. The vineyards reach a height of 1,200 metres and have grapes of different varieties. The conditions, together with the scanty rainfall and the sandy and permeable soil make the area appropriate for the cultivation of wine, making it possible for it to compete with traditional European wineries.

Titarrelli, which has vineyards in Mendoza (Argentina) and a range of brands including Finca El Retiro, Bodega, Galo and Caio, will introduce a mid to premium range of wines in the initial stages encompassing varietals like Chardonnay, Torrontes, Malbec, Tempranillo and Torrontes Chardonnay blend.
