Claridges buys out Uppal's Hill View

Adds two more properties to its portfolio

Sanjeev Bhar - New Delhi

The Claridges is adding two more properties to its Delhi account. The Group, earlier this year, sealed a purchase deal for Uppal Group's 'Hotel Hill View' in Suraj Kund of Deli NCR and is now going to construct another hotel near it.

Renu Kapoor, VP - Sales & Marketing, Claridges said, "We have purchased Uppal's Hill View property and are going to renovate it giving it a Claridges hallmark look and the number of rooms will be reduced to increase some key facility services."

According to sources in Uppal Group, the talks of Hill View property changing hands started late last year between the groups. The hotel is currently being renovated and is expected to be operational from end 2008.

Claridges has also acquired another plot in the same area near Hill View Hotel where a project of 200-rooms and 35-room serviced apartments has been planned, revealed Kapoor.

Rumneek Bawa, CEO of Uppal Group although confirmed the acquisition of Hotel Hill View but refrained from commenting on the reason why the group decided to sell out Hill View to Claridges. It is being speculated that the decision was taken to generate funds in its bid to expand other properties. Neither of the hotel groups divulged financial details of this closed deal.
