Radisson GRT enters in-flight catering
Bhavika Jhaveri- Chennai
With a view to tap the growing Chennai market,
Radisson GRT has diversified into in-flight catering business, which will be part
of its overall hotel operations. The catering unit has already bagged a deal with
Kingfisher and Indian. Radisson GRT is also looking to renew its focus on outdoor
catering this year.
Speaking on the new venture, Vikram Cotah, GM of Radisson GRT, says, "Our proximity to the airport and the fact
that we are the first hotel to receive ISO 22000 certification on food safety
and hygiene prompted us to enter the catering business. This segment works on
volumes where more meals increase profitability. At present, we have demarcated
an area in our hotel where we carry out the operations. However, it needs a specific
work process to make food in the format the airlines want." He added that
the hotel would be setting up a new facility for these operations next to its
property, which will produce more than 5,000 meals.
On
outdoor catering, Cotah avers, "We have catered to a few prestigious events
in the past. It will be a step-by-step approach. After our in-flight catering
is in place, we shall focus on bulk catering." In-flight catering is a growing
segment with established players like Taj SATS, The Ambassador SkyChef, Oberois
Flight Services and SkyGourmet.
