K Raheja's airport property to be a Marriott apartment hotel

‘Courtyard’ at Mindspace on cards

Savio Rodrigues - Mumbai

K Raheja has finalised plans for its mixed-use development project on the 14-acre prime plot near the new Taj SATS Flight Catering unit at Mumbai’s international airport that it had acquired from the Taj Group of Hotels for an undisclosed amount in November last year. The project is to house a 300-room Marriott service apartment.

Speaking exclusively to Express Hospitality, on strict condition of anonymity, a top management personnel in K Raheja Corporation revealed, "After taking into consideration the various hospitality related projects that we could come up with at the prime location, we have finalised on setting up a mixed-use development project, which will house a shopping mall and an apartment hotel."

Elucidating on the rationale for setting up an apartment hotel instead of a luxury or business hotel, the manager said, "Though the group has the Marriott Executive Apartments at Powai, which is not far away from the airport, an apartment hotel that is a stone’s throw away will help us tap both the long-staying guest as well frequent fliers on a short stop over in the city. This concept has been successful the world over."

Also on the cards is the group's foray into the budget segment for the first time after playing the hospitality game in the luxury hotel, business hotel, service apartments and resort space. The group is to come up with a 120-room 'Courtyard' budget hotel at its Mindspace project in Malad, Mumbai, catering to the growing BPO and call centre professionals in the area.
