Label inspection systems for F&B
There is an increasing stress on inspection measures, particularly
in the field of F&B, to maintain high quality standards in the production
of foodstuffs and beverages. Targeting this market is KHS. Express Hospitality

Germany-based
KHS, an international solution provider in the packaging industry with a special
focus on beverage applications, has launched KHS Metec Innocheck ETI label inspection
system - quality control tool for the F&B industry.
With increasing stress being placed on inspection measures in industries today,
particularly in the field of beverage, more stringent checks are demanded in
order to maintain high quality standards in the production of food and beverage.
Measuring & monitoring
With 5,000 installations worldwide, the latest from the company's stable deals
with the latest measuring and monitoring equipment.
Whether large or small, thick or thin, rectangular or flat, the new KHS Metec
Innocheck ETI label inspection system covers all relevant measuring and monitoring
devices for all common container materials.
The label inspection system checks the dressing of all conceivable container
styles down to the last detail and is suitable for the F&B sector as well
as the non-food sector. The label inspection system is extremely flexible with
regard to different container materials. Precise inspection is a given at all
times - regardless if glass, cardboard, plastic, or metal packaging.
Among other things, the new KHS Metec label inspection system has a modular
design of labeling equipment. A large number of labels can therefore be checked
on each container as well as a multitude of label materials, shapes, and sizes.
It is suitable both for low output and high output applications and its maximum
inspection capacity is 60,000 containers per hour. The detection accuracy of
the new KHS Metec label inspection system is almost 100 per cent, but can be
adjusted to the tolerance limit defined within the labeling machine.

A special lighting unit within the system ensures uniform
illumination of the container. The standard checking functions of the KHS Metec
label inspection system include checks for the presence and correct seating
of each individual label, and the optimum application of the labels in the specified
relationship to one another. Further inspection options relate to precise and
complete printing, coloring, best-before date, EAN code, and much more. The
general rule is that everything related to a label can be checked down to the
last detail.
Cameras for scanning
Generally, four cameras are used, which are offset at ninety degrees to one
another. Certain containers require the use of eight cameras, of which four
scan the top part of the container and a further four the bottom part.
Label images produced by its camera technology are combined with one another
using a modern control unit. This, therefore, results in a continuous and two-dimensional
image of a complete label, which provides all the required information.
Recently, KHS Maschinen- und Anlagenbau AG increased its stake
in the Indian joint venture from 60 per cent to 89 percent. Apart from the production
plants in India, KHS also maintains production sites in international locations
like the US, Mexico and Brazil. It has more than 60 sales and service bases
on all continents.
