Seminar On Emerging Trends In Tourism Sector

Srinivas College of Hotel Management, a part of Srinivas
group of Colleges, managed by A Sharma Rao Foundation, organised a national
seminar on 'Emerging Trends In The Tourism Sector' on August 13 and 14, 2004.
The organising partners were AICTE, New Delhi.
The objective of the seminar was to address the new trends in the tourism sector
to discuss issues, faced by many of the states as well as the country at large.
It has been noticed that quality tourists were slowly moving away from the Indian
sub-continent to countries such as China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore etc.
Keeping this in mind there were discussions about what was causing such movement
and potential solutions for sustaining the tourism industry.
The seminar brought together the stalwarts as well as bureaucrats from the tourism
industry to debate various issues and make their arguments highlighting both
sides of the scenario. Also invited and present at this seminar were dignitaries
from the travel trade and the hotel industry and a group of delegates.
The event was inaugurated by the Inspector General of Police, western Range
of Karnataka, H N Satyanarayan and the chief guest for the function was Cherian
Varghese, chairman, Corporation Bank. The seminar was presided over by the president
of the A Sharma Rao Foundation, A Raghavendra Rao. The convener of the Seminar,
professor Abhijit Mukerjee introduced the theme of the seminar after which there
were presentations made on the accommodation sector, promoting sustainable development
in tourism, with a case study on the promotion of tourism on Dakshin Kanada,
and Information Technology, an engine for growth in tourism.
The second day of the seminar saw presentations on promotion of Tourism by respective
states, customer relations' management in the tourism sector and ethics in tourism.
All the presenters provided a virtual guided tour to their respective states
and showcased how they have achieved a sustained growth in tourism in their
respective states.
