Ashok To House 45,000 Square Feet Spa

Jyoti Koul - New Delhi

Hotel Ashok will be the venue of a 45,000 square feet lifestyle spa - Amatrra, a brand of the Mayar group of companies. India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) had floated a lease tender and Mayar bagged the deal through an open bidding.

The parent company has floated a separate division called Mayar Health Resorts Ltd, which is investing Rs 15 crore in the project. However, this is only a pilot project. The company has plans to expand in South East Asia and Europe. The spa will be opening by the end of August.

Besides addressing lifestyle diseases like stress, fatigue, arthritis and diabetes, the spa will provide treatments based on Ayurveda and 'astro-science'.

The features of the spa are a floatarium, Vichy showers, spa boutique, a restaurant and a juice bar, besides a world class fully automated gymnasium. It will also focus on yoga and aerobics.

While talking about the unique selling proposition of the venture, Ashit Sud, director, Mayar India Ltd, revealed, "Amatrra is a departure from the standard and cliched positioning. All that we are aiming to say is that it is a truly Indian Spa which focuses on total wellness. The therapies are being structured in such a way that they address the lifestyle problems. The focus of the spa is to create energies, harmonise and synchronise to recharge a person completely"

However, the spa, which is an extension of the company's Ayurvedic packaged products already in the market, is not for the masses. "The membership is only by invitation as we will be catering to the upper crust. We will not allow paid single day usage. It is a premium product," said Sud.
