After suffering a major setback in 2002, the fortunes of the tourism sector shone in 2003 with foreign exchange earnings increasing by a whopping Rs 2,855 crore (23.3 per cent) to Rs 17,050 crore compared to Rs 14,195 crore earned in the previous year.
